Of course, there is NO obligation to wear a wetsuit! There are always between 10 % and 20 % of starters without a wetsuit at the smart and olympic distances. At this small swimming distances, sometimes it makes more sense to swim without a wetsuit. The water has never been so cold that you could not swim without a wetsuit.
